Service Projects

The Zonta Club of Frederick contributes to the International Service Projects, including:

 

Established in 1938 in honor of famed pilot and Zontian, Amelia Earhart, the Amelia Earhart Fellowship is awarded annually to women pursuing Ph.D./doctoral degrees in aerospace-related sciences or aerospace-related engineering. The Fellowship of US$10,000, awarded to 35 Fellows around the globe each year, may be used at any university or college offering accredited post- graduate courses and degrees in these fields.  

The Zonta International Strategies to

Eradicate Violence Against Women

(ZISVAW)

Since the program's inception in 1999, more than US$3.5 million has been provided to support 43 projects in 33 countries.  During the 2014-2016 Biennium, two projects are being supported by the ZISVAW Fund: Respecting the Rights and Responding to the Needs of Adolescent Girls in Niger Voices Against Violence: Non-Formal Education Curriculum for the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts on Ending Violence against Women and Girl

Zonta International's Service Projects.

 

Helping women in developing countries has been a passion of Zontians since the organization was founded in 1919. Today, Zonta's International Service Program continues to help women in developing countries improve their legal, political, economic, educational and health status. Through funding from the Zonta International Foundation, the Program has provided training, education, health, sanitation, agricultural and micro-credit assistance to women, primarily through projects implemented by the agencies of the United Nations and other recognized non- governmental organizations.

The Amelia Earhart Fellowship

Donna Lane, longtime member of the Zonta Club of Frederick, and President of the Zonta International Foundation, dedicates the Zonta Rose Garden in Gothenburg, Sweden.  Zonta Rose Day, March 8th, celebrates International Womens' Day and serves as a fundraising opportunity for Zontians around the world to further their service to women.

Local Service Projects of the

Zonta Club of Frederick

In support of universal literacy, member of the club tutor both adults and children in literacy.
The club also sponsors the annual Art in the Park, a playground art show.
The Zonta Club of Frederick provides financial aid to various local projects when the needs arise.
The current focus is on promoting women's health and eradicating violence against women and children
Funds are raised through the selling of Miss Helen Smith's prints,annual picnics, and and a fall dinner and auction
Working with the Salvation Army by ringingbells and stuffing  stockings for Christmas.  Zonta Club of Frederick members Maida Wright (left) and Jacque Brown (right) flank a "donator".
